Young Leadership

At St Peter’s, we are committed to developing essential leadership skills in our pupils, including communication, organisation, responsibility and motivation. We believe it is important for children to learn how to work effectively with others, fostering cooperation, teamwork and respect among their peers.

Being part of a leadership team gives children the opportunity to take responsibility, build confidence and make a positive contribution to the school community. Our young leaders support a wide range of activities across the school. They organise and lead sporting events, help younger pupils during playtimes, lead prayers and collective worship, promote environmental awareness and digital safety, and assist in the management of our school library.

Our leaders also play an important role in representing the voice of their peers through the Pupil Parliament, helping to shape school decisions and contribute ideas that make St Peter’s an even better place to learn and grow.

House Captains

At St Peter’s, every child belongs to one of our four Houses: Calverley, Dunlorlan, Grove and Hawkenbury. Our House Captains are from Year 6 and are enthusiastic and responsible role models who proudly lead their House teams throughout the year.

They encourage teamwork, sportsmanship and house spirit, helping to motivate and support pupils during competitions, events and challenges. House Captains celebrate achievements, welcome participation from all children and help younger pupils feel proud to represent their House. Through their leadership, confidence and kindness, they help build a strong sense of community and make House events fun and memorable for everyone.

Mini Police Cadets

Our Mini Police Cadets programme gives Year 6 pupils an exciting opportunity to work alongside Kent Police while developing valuable life skills and becoming positive role models within our school community.

Over a series of weekly sessions, cadets take part in a range of engaging activities, including learning how to contact the emergency services, basic first aid, online safety, respect and responsibility, and understanding the impact of anti-social behaviour. They also work together on a social action project designed to make a positive difference in school or the local community.

Each cadet is provided with a Mini Police cap and notebook and proudly represents the values of teamwork, leadership and citizenship. Throughout the programme, children build confidence, learn new skills and are recognised for their commitment and participation. The programme concludes with a special presentation ceremony, where cadets receive a certificate celebrating their achievements.

Members of our year 6 cohort will be selected in the winter of 2027.

Leading Lights

Our Leading Lights are pupil faith leaders who help to nurture the Christian life of our school. They play an active role in planning and leading Collective Worship, writing prayers, selecting Bible readings and helping to create welcoming worship spaces around the school. As ambassadors for our Christian values, they encourage others to grow in faith, represent the views of their peers and support the strong Christian character that makes St Peter’s such a special community.

School Librarians

Our school library is a vibrant and welcoming space where children can discover new interests, spark their imagination and develop a lifelong love of reading. Filled with a wide range of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, newspapers and comics, it is a much-loved part of school life.

Our dedicated School Librarians play an important role in keeping the library organised and inviting for everyone. Giving up some of their playtime, they help to label, sort and display books, ensuring that pupils can easily find and enjoy their next Reading for Pleasure book. As part of their role, our librarians receive specialist training at the Amelia Scott, where they learn how to showcase books effectively and promote different authors, genres and reading opportunities across the school. Through their enthusiasm and commitment, they help inspire a love of reading throughout the St Peter's community.
