Cooking in the Classroom
In term one we have focused our DT learning on cooking. We spent a morning of learning in our hall with our special guest chef, Mrs Williams, who taught us different skills of cooking to make two traditional dishes from Greece, pitta bread and white bean soup (Fassolatha). Using the skills of weighing, measuring, chopping, peeling, stirring, kneading and baking we attempted to follow two traditional recipes, and then took them home for dinner. In the lesson we learnt how to use a bridge hold to chop vegetables into large chunks and then to use a claw grip to slice their vegetables into smaller pieces to go into their salads. We also measured, stirred and kneaded our own dough into pitta breads which were baked in school ready for us to try along with our white bean soup!
