Science - Why does the Moon appear to change shape?
Saturn class worked in small groups to answer this question as part of their Earth and Space Science unit. Using a torch to represent the sun, a polystyrene ball to represent the Moon and each child in turn playing the part of Earth, the classroom became Space. The moon orbits Earth and our ‘living’ Earth reported what they could see. Everyone was able to see the 8 phases of the moon happening as the orbits were completed, and understand where the moon is in relation to Earth and the Sun and how this changes what we see from Earth.
