Viking poetry - The Viking raid on Lindisfarne
To end our year the children took inspiration from the Viking raid on Lindisfarne Monastery to write narrative poems. Analysing ‘The Charge of the Light Brigade’ by Alfred Lord Tennyson and learning to weave its poetic features and rhythm together with their own ideas and word choices enabled the children to create powerful poems. To the delight of the class, the children then read out their poems and in some cases were helped by a performer enacting the action. If you haven’t already, ask your child to read their poem to you.
